 | T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund Beginning with the 2001 County Campaign, United Way volunteers approved setting aside ten percent of Community Fund contributions for a competitive grants program. The T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund was named for United Way's long-time Executive Director and community leader.
Mr.Shipherd led our United Way for twenty-nine years. Throughout his life, Mr. Shipherd worked tirelessly to bring people together and collectively find solutions for community problems. He had a profound effect on our community, and we believe this fund will continue his legacy.
All United Way Partner and Affiliate Organizations in good standing are eligible to apply for T. Merrell Shipherd funding. These funds are targeted for support of quality programming that addresses unmet and emerging health and human service needs in Tompkins County. The T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund provides our United Way with a new mechanism for addressing community problems quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
