A Brief History
of United Way

 |
United Way represents a family of 43 member organizations that deliver needed and quality services every day. Member organizations are comprised of: 25 Partner Agencies, 7 Affiliate Agencies and 11 Community Councils.
By connecting contributors, consumers and a network of quality service providers, United Way is our community’s most efficient, cost-effective and comprehensive means for ensuring that important and needed health and human services are available for Tompkins County residents.
United Way of Tompkins County Mission
To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities.
Vision for the United Way of Tompkins County
We will build a stronger community by mobilizing our resources to improve people's lives.
To do this we will:
- Energize and inspire people to make a difference.
- Craft human care agendas within and across our communities.
- Build Coalitions around these agendas.
- Increase investments in these agendas by expanding and diversifying our own development efforts and supporting those of others.
- Measure, communicate and learn from the impact of our efforts.
- Reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.
We carry out this mission and vision through many, and varying, activities and as volunteers and staff we must be ever mindful that our personal and professional conduct influences the public perception of our United Way. Fundamental to our effectiveness in carrying out our mission is the public's trust and confidence in all we do. This bond of trust goes far beyond legal or regulatory requirements to include our core values, and ethics.
