Community Grants

Youth and Philanthropy Grant

United Way of Tompkins County's Youth and Philanthropy Council announced its 2009 grant awards. The Council, composed of 20 students within the Tompkins Seneca and Tioga County BOCES District, awarded $26,700 in one-time grants.


All Tompkins County nonprofits are eligible to apply for Youth and Philanthropy funds. Grants were awarded to quality programs and services that demonstrate substantiated need, clear goals, effective collaborations, and measurable outcomes.

Youth and Philanthropy Grants in Fall 2009 totaling $26,700 were awarded to the following organizations:

Advocacy Center of Tompkins County -Teen Outreach ($1,000)


Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County -4-H Urban Outreach Program ($1,500)


Finger Lakes Independence Center - Modular Ramp ($1,000)


Ithaca Health Alliance - Ithaca Free Clinic ($10,000)


Mira's Movement, Inc. - Pediatric Cancer Family Connection ($3,000)


Social Ventures, Golden Opportunity - After-School Tutoring Program ($3,200)


Tompkins Community Action - Boynton After-School Program ($1,000)


Village at Ithaca - Path of Success ($2,000)


Women's Opportunity Center - Bare Necessities ($4,000)
