Hunger and Food Security Grants
United Way of Tompkins County continues to document an increased demand for food and personal care items and is focusing its efforts on addressing the many complex food and hunger issues. UWTC is working to support programming to make an impact ot improve the quality of life of area residents.
All local nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply for Hunger & Food Security Funds. As indicated by community conditions, UWTC has established Fall and Spring Hunger & Food Security grant cycles. Please check back for updates on deadlines for the next grant cycle. Hunger and Food Security Grants in Spring 2010 totaling $25,000 were awarded to the following organizations:
Cancer Resource Center - Nutritional Support for Individuals in Cancer Treatment ($900)
Child Development Council - Infant Formula and Baby Food ($1,500)
Food Bank of the Southern Tier - BackPack Program ($9,000)
Immaculate Conception Church Food Pantry - Commercial Refrigerator ($3,156)
Loaves and Fishes of Tompkins County - Free Meal Program ($3,000)
Southside Community Center - Southside Hot Meal Program ($7,444)
Hunger and Food Security Grants in Fall 2009 totaling $25,385 were awarded to the following organizations:
American Red Cross, Tompkins County Chapter - Homeless Service Program Food Pantry ($4,550)
Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga - Samaritan Center Personal Hygiene Program & Grocery Supplement Program ($10,000)
Groton Community Council - Food Pantry, Commerical Freezer ($1,785)
Loaves and Fishes of Tompkins County - Free Meal Program�($4,550)
Tompkins Community Action - Emergency Food Pantry ($4,500)
